A cleaner, fresher look has been achieved with:

The homepage completely reshifting with the carousel removed and recently updated storyz  and relevant posts are visible which you can also post to. The ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘where’ and ‘wow!’ tabs have been removed and all navigation has been shifted to the right hand side panel. User profiles are also only visible when clicking their name though a story.

Storyz have a different style with the speech-like bubble removed and posts broken up with a single line

The slideshow now pops up onto the screen, rather than directing you to a new page. You can also a post on the same screen, again without waiting for a new page to load

view post

Storyz are now displayed in a larger grid formation when browsing, however storyz in the inbox are displayed as they were previously one underneath the other, to display new posts added.

Nielsen, the research agency, is spot on when they say “Advertising must be a conversation rather than a push model”, in their latest research report on social media entitled “Global Faces and Networked Places“. Could not agree more guys!  Welcome to Storyz 🙂

Although the Storyz blog is mainly intended to provide updates on features and functions of our service, we do come across some interesting research etc, and will provide update on this from time to time as posted by JT Klepp, the COO of Storyz. Find below an excerpt of the latest article, “Who are the real influencers”, as well as a link to the full article.

Lots of people on the East Coast US have been busy looking into word of mouth marketing lately. “Do Friends Influence Purchases in a Social Network?” presents and in-depth study based on Cyworld, a popular social networking site in Korea.  Cyworld is a great base to study, due to it’s abilities for members to “scrape” or copy other friends home page contents.

New functionality and a changed appearance in Storyz means that navigating has been made much simpler!

A navigation bar has been added to the top of the page which you can see in the image below

This allows you to sort the storyz in many different ways without having to return to the home page, with “Popular Storyz” being the newest addition.

Popular Storyz are sorted by the number of views they receive from users.

Another change is that the most recently updated story is now placed first in the list, rather than at the end, making sure you can keep up to date more quickly.

Storyz has just released and Android version to the Android market.  Funny enough only visible through the market place on the actual device and not on the web (Google is not quite there in terms of catching up with Apple), but it is there nonetheless.  You can also download it from Mobango and pretty soon a few other sites.

The cool thing about this app is its direct access from the camera. I.e. you can take a picture, then hit the share button, and then you get directly access to creating a story from there.  I.e. no need to fire up the app first.  We hope you enjoy it and will send us your comments.

Your profile picture is currently linked to Gravatar, a free site that is intended to save you time when you register. We have had a lot of request for people to have the ability to upload their own picture – and your wish has been granted.  We have now added profile picture as a feature.

If  you have been invited to a new story lately, you may have noticed a really cool new feature we call “In-email Reply”.  Essentially you will see the latest post in the email with an image (if one has been posted), and you can type a response directly into the box and click ‘Post’ and it will initiate a process to post directly on the site.  You can see how it works in the screen shot below:

in-email-reply

The cool thing about this is that you never even have to leave your email program to contribute to storyz!  We have also made it smart, so if you have not logged in to Storyz, you are taken to the log in screen when you hit ‘Post’, and the text is grabbed and posted correctly.  If you are logged in, simply clicking ‘Post’ will post your comment and take you directly to the story.

Note that whether or not this works for you mainly depends on the security settings in your email client. We have tested it on a wide range of email clients, but in the end individual settings determines whether it works. Feel free to share your experiences with Comments in terms of how to adjust settings for various clients.

We have kept busy and created a really cool new version of our iPhone app.  Not only is it 6x faster than the original version, it is not a lot easier to use for browsing Featured or Big Storyz, as well as seeing who the Big Userz are this week.  Below are some screenshots of the app:

Celebrating the launch of our web site, we issued a press release about it.  Along with the site, we launched the ability for brands to challenge users to a game of “storyz telling” where Storyz is used as a tool for people to participate in a campaign where you can win prizes, fame, etc.  An example could be a competition like “Share your holiday” sponsored by a travel company, where you can use Storyz to show your friends pictures and video clips from your holiday, while your Storyz Pointz can actually be used for possibly winning a prize from the brand etc.

Here are some links to the articles that popped up:

The Next Twitter?
Storyz Launches Cross-Platform ‘Conversation’ Social Site
Storyz Beta-Launches Mobile Media-Sharing Service
Film news brief (search storyz)

I especially like this quote:  “The iPhone app is very well done and it may be an early secret to its success if it can reach a critical mass. Being able to send photo messages to anyone on your friends list is a compelling offering that should interest marketers, who can involve the community with simple challenges that go out as branded viral messages. “
